Our team is the heart of what we do. Each member brings a unique blend of expertise, compassion, and creativity to their role, ensuring that every client receives the highest quality care.

Our board-certified music therapists are deeply committed to empowering individuals across all ages and stages of life.

Together, we share a common passion: using music to help people heal, grow, and thrive. Whether in our clinic, in the community, or through telehealth, we work collaboratively to meet each client’s unique needs and goals.

  • Christina Wood, MA, MT-BC

    Founder & CEO

    Christina grew up on a farm in south-central MN.  She completed her bachelor’s degree of music education & music therapy at Wartburg College and received her Master’s of Arts in Music Therapy from Saint Mary of-the-Woods College. She has completed additional training in Neurologic Music Therapy, NICU Music Therapy, the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music, and is a Remo HealthRHYTHMS Facilitator. 

    Christina has experience working as a music therapist with children and adults with special needs, adult and pediatric hospice, bereavement, pediatrics and adult medical settings, rehabilitation, wellness, program development and consulting. Christina is passionate about starting and implementing music therapy programs at new facilities and educating medical professionals and community members about the benefits of music therapy for patients. She also enjoys consulting on projects in the community for music medicine and music therapy.

  • Destiny Boyum, MT-BC

    Lead Music Therapist

    Destiny has been a therapist at Healing Rhythms since January 2017.  She graduated from Augsburg College with a major in music therapy and minor in psychology. She completed her clinical internship in an inpatient psychiatric setting with adults and teens. She has spent the majority of her clinical work in pediatric and mental health settings. Destiny loves rock music, creative outlets and performing locally with her bands.

  • Brianna Larsen, MA, MT-BC

    Lead Music Therapist

    Brianna Larsen received her music therapy degree from the University of North Dakota and completed her Master’s Degree from Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods College. She has advanced training in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and is a Neurologic Music Therapy Fellow. Brianna has provided services to a wide variety of populations including neonatal intensive care, hospice, pediatric and adult intensive care units, palliative medicine, rehabilitation, Parkinson’s exercise groups, and older adult groups. Brianna experiences great joy in learning the unique stories from each patient she meets. She enjoys playing French horn in a community orchestra and playing soccer in her free time.

  • Amelia McDonald, MT-BC

    Music Therapist

    Amelia has been a music therapist with Healing Rhythms since July 2016. She completed her internship at Woodbury Health Care Center and graduated from the University of Iowa that same year, where her primary instrument was double bass, although she studied voice as well. Amelia works primarily with hospice patients, those living with dementia, and their loved ones. She loves interacting with people and is passionate about providing opportunities for autonomy, self-expression, and validation with music. In her free time, Amelia enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

  • Louisa Nuehring, MA, MT-BC

    Music Therapist

    Louisa joined the Healing Rhythms team in November 2022. After studying music therapy at the University of Minnesota, she completed her internship at North Memorial Hospice. Louisa’s clinical experience is primarily in hospice, and she now provides support to individuals and families receiving hospice and palliative care. Louisa also enjoys knitting, baking, and spending time outdoors

  • John Hoehn, MT-BC

    Music Therapist

    John Hoehn joined the Healing Rhythms team as a music therapist in November of 2023. He finished his undergraduate work at Wartburg College, and after an extended break, he finished his internship with Park Nicollet and HealthPartners in the Twin Cities. With Healing Rhythms, John primarily works in and around the Mankato area with inpatient palliative care and with behavioral and developmental disorders in K-12 schooling. In their free time, John also enjoys singing duets and playing card games with their twin brother; co-conducting Waseca’s community choir, the Waseca Chorale; and working with the woodwind section of the Waseca Marching Jays. He also enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons, video games, and reading Kurt Vonnegut.

    Music Therapist

    Megan joined Healing Rhythms in December of 2022. She graduated from Augsburg University with a degree in music therapy and completed an internship with Allina Hospice. She currently serves Ridgeview Hospice, which is based out of Waconia but serves many communities in the southwest of the state. Her primary instrument is the voice and she is passionate about education and resources on vocal health for music therapists. In her free time she enjoys knitting, bookbinding, and writing.

  • Katie Hicks, MT-BC

    Music Therapist

    Katie joined Healing Rhythms Music Therapy in September 2024 and brings over a decade of experience working with children. She earned her bachelor’s degree in music therapy from the University of Minnesota and holds a certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders, which informs and enhances her work with neurodivergent clients.


    At Healing Rhythms, Katie primarily supports children with disabilities, using music to encourage growth, communication, and creativity. She completed her internship in Wisconsin where she worked with individuals across the lifespan—including children, teens, adults, and older adults with a wide range of needs and goals.


    A lifelong percussionist, Katie brings rhythm and energy into every session. Her playful, client-centered approach helps create an environment where clients of all ages feel supported, engaged, and empowered through music.

  • Christopher Nix, MM, MT-BC

    Music Therapist

    Chris joins Healing Rhythms after 10 years as a full-time music therapist. He earned his bachelor's degree in music therapy from the University of Alabama, and a master's in music therapy from the University of Kentucky. He has completed additional training in Vocal Psychotherapy and holds certification as a dementia practitioner (CDP®) and instructor for the Crisis Prevention Institute. Chris has worked in acute & outpatient behavioral health, intensive care, surgical, skilled nursing & rehabilitation, and hospice & palliative care. Music has been a lifelong passion and joy, growing up on stage with his family of performers. He enjoys time in nature with his family and pets, collecting vinyl records, Alabama football, and all things Joni Mitchell.
